Maintenance Tips
Please wear safety goggles and gloves before performing any work on your batteries. Electrolyte contains sulfuric acid and can cause serious burns. Also, be sure your work space is well ventilated and free of any ignition sources. Ensure the cart's key is OFF and the Run/Tow-Maintenance switch is placed in Tow/Maintenance before performing any work in your battery compartment.

Check water levels frequently during periods of warm weather and/or heavy use. Make sure the water covers the plates in each cell, being careful to not overfill. Distilled water is recommended, especially if your tap water has a high mineral content. Only top off your batteries when they are fully charged.

Gently rinse the grass and other debris from your battery compartment, avoiding a direct spray on your battery caps. Be sure to rinse underneath your cart when done, lest you stain your driveway. Remove any white sulfate accumulation from your terminals with a wire brush and diluted ammonia or baking soda solution.
Apply a battery terminal protectant available from auto stores liberally to each terminal and connection. A household lubricant (WD40, LiquidWrench, etc) may be used if a terminal protectant is not available. Be sure to check each nut, making sure they are secure and making a tight connection. A loose wire can short the system, causing sparks and possibly igniting the volatile gasses in your battery compartment.

Charge your cart after each use, avoiding fully discharging it if possible. Severe discharge will limit the longevity of the batteries. If you store your cart outdoors, be sure to fully charge the batteries prior to freezing temperatures. Batteries will freeze at a much higher temperature if discharged as opposed to fully charged. Let your charger top off the batteries every week or so, or simply leave it plugged in to accomplish this. Make sure you disconnect the charger from the outlet during severe weather. Contact your local Battery Doctor with any other questions you may have.

Routinely check the inflation levels of the tires on your cart. Practically every cart we service at Battery Doctors has improper inflation levels, some with virtually no air pressure at all. This will decrease the range of the cart, cause poor wear pattern on the tires, and place undue stress on the motor and batteries, especially if you have a heavy load on the cart. Battery Doctors recommends keeping your tires inflated to maximum pressure of 22 to 25 psi.

Clean your cart's windshield with a clean, soft cloth and furniture polish, applying a quick squirt to each side and wiping completely. Never use paper towels or glass cleaner as these will scratch the acrylic material and practically ruin the windshield.
